Just Write Calligraphy
Hi, I'm Karen Messersmith, and I have been intrigued with lettering of all styles, art of all mediums, and all things colorful since I was a child.
I have worked in medical transcription, reception, and most recently, have been a retail associate for a Gift shop and Monogram store here in Cullman, Alabama. I took my first Calligraphy class the year after my parents passed away, to focus on something positive and beautiful. When I decided to leave retail work last fall to spend more time on Calligraphy and other Art projects, the timing seemed to fall into place to offer workshops, to share with others many of the “artsy” things I enjoy! I have had so much fun since February 2018 with workshops for: 1) Intro to Casual Calligraphy with Pointed Pen, 2) Upper Case Casual, and 3) a simple Watercolor workshop to show how watercolor accents can add to your calligraphy. Other workshop ideas are always coming to mind, such as Fun and Fancy Envelopes, and Intro to a more traditional style of Copperplate Calligraphy, based on my interpretation of this letter style.
I continue to book Calligraphy for Wedding envelopes, one of my favorite things to do! These are often booked many months in advance to allow time for you to order invitations and get your guest list together. Contact me as soon as you start planning, to get your wedding on my calendar. I will be happy to meet with you to show you samples in person, and discuss your timeline as it works with my calendar. Rush orders will be done when possible, but will require a rush fee.

In addition to wedding calligraphy, I can do lettering for other purposes. Bible verses, poems, baby names, last name or initials, can be done with or without simple watercolor accents. These vary by price depending on what is required. I will meet with you to talk about your calligraphy project and will give an estimate before beginning your piece.
